86: Eighty-Six Episode 18 Delayed

Episode 18 of 86: Eighty-Six has been delayed, the official Japanese website for the anime announced today, citing “production issues”. The episode was set to air on November 13, but will instead air a week later on November 20. A TV special featuring the anime cast, Shoya Chiba, Seiichiro Yamashita, and Misaki Kuno will air instead.

The staff apologized for the delay, saying that they want to deliver the best product possible. The replacement special will focus on action scenes in episodes 12-16. In addition to the episode 18 delay, there will be no new 86: Eighty-Six episode on December 11 either, due to special programming.

86: Eighty-Six anime is currently airing its second cour, which continues the story from the previous season. A-1 Pictures is animating the series, with Koshimasa Ishii as the director. Tetsuya Kawakami is the character designer, while Kohta Yamamoto and Hiroyuki Sawano composed the OST.

The story is based on a light novel by Asato Asato, with Shirabi’s illustrations. The second part of the series covers events from Volume 2 of the light novel:

Having bid Lena farewell, Shin and the surviving members of the Spearhead squadron continue into the heart of Legion territory. There, they endure countless hardships until they’re rescued by the Federal Republic of Giad, a reformed nation that offers them a second chance at a peaceful life. But it isn’t long before a sense of duty calls the Eighty-Six back to the battlefield. Choosing to enlist in the military, they willingly walk back through the gates of hell, this time joined by a peculiar new ally-Frederica Rosenfort: a haughty young girl with a rare ability and wisdom far beyond her years.
