Twitter user “@sinecuris” went viral after posting a photo showing an advertisement for the United States Marine Corps which used a female anime character, which some find similar to violet evergarden of the homonymous franchise and others to To know from Fate/Stay Night a more than recurring confusion within the community.
«I’ve seen this on an official US Marine recruiting post.» the user wrote. «US MARINES – Active Duty on Land and Sea – Enlist at Marines.Com», write the description written inside the image in question. In fact, there are even more photos that confirm the veracity of the material and that it was not just printed by a fan to pass it off as fake news.
The illustration, on the other hand, is based on an image dating back to the First World War. A look at the United States Library of Congress shows that the original image was made between 1914 and 1918 and that it is described as follows: «US Marines recruitment poster showing a Marine with a rifle patrolling the docks».
«I’m a Marine and I think that’s awesome. It mirrors the old original it was based on and still looks boxy, plus the Marines love things Japanese. We’ve all been to or near Japan» the user wrote «@argentcorvus” in response on Twitter.
Even further investigation led to the discovery that the artist in question for this image is Eromoeba, who published it in September 2020 as a requested commission. The registration in Deviant Art confirms without a doubt that it is based on violet evergarden something that could already be assumed given the blond hair and blue eyes.
