Thermae Romae Novae, the anime adaptation of the historical time-travel comedy manga, is getting a worldwide release on March 28 on Netflix. The title was first announced during the Netflix Festival Japan 2021, which took place on November 9-10, 2021.
The new anime adaptation is animated by NAZ and directed by Tetsuya Tatamitani, with Yuichiro Momose serving as the series’ scriptwriter. You can watch the official trailer for the series below:
Thermae Romae Novae started off as a manga written by Mari Yamazaki, published on Enterbrain. The manga ran from 2008 to 2013 in Comic Bean magazine. An English release for the manga was licensed by Yen Press for North America distribution. A flash anime adaptation of the title aired from January 12-January 26, 2012. Said adaptation was animated by DLE and aired on Fuji TV.
A film adaptation of the title was also released in Japan on April 28, 2012, and was directed by Hideki Takeuchi. At the time, it was the second-highest-grossing domestic film in Japan, earning around US$74,091,903 at the box office.
A proud bath architect in ancient Rome starts randomly surfacing in present-day Japan, where he’s inspired by the many bathing innovations he finds.
