In 2007, Hiroki Adachi, writing under the pen name HERO, introduced the endearing romantic comedy manga Hori-san to Miyamura-kun on her website, Dokkai Ahen. Originally, the manga took the form of a 4-koma series, which consists of comic strips featuring four panels. The following year, Square Enix acquired the rights to the manga, leading to its official release.
In 2011, Daisuke Hagiwara took on the task of adapting the series into a new manga called Horimiya, which presented a retelling of the original story in a more typical manga format with a fresh art style. The 2021 TV anime adaptation closely aligns with Daisuke Hagiwara’s manga version. Spanning 12 episodes, it omitted certain portions of the manga to focus on adapting the ending.
