One Piece Manga Is Going on a One-Month Break Starting on June 27

Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece manga will be taking a one-month break, starting with the June 27 issue of Weekly Shonen Jump where it’s currently being serialized. The manga will skip four issues of the magazine and is slated to return on July 25, with the 34th issue of WSJ.

The information was revealed on Oda’s Twitter, in mangaka’s typical style – a handwritten note. Oda asks for some time to catch his breath and also talks about the upcoming movie. He goes on to say that he wants to prepare for the final stretch of the manga, but that he needs time to prepare. The mangaka is supposed to visit Africa, for the upcoming Netflix’s One Piece live-action adaptation.

The new announcements will include Uta and Gordon’s voice actors, the main trailer for the movie, theme songs, a new poster by Oda, and more information about the original manga. The stream is set to begin on June 8 at 7:00 pm JST.

Eiichiro Oda is one of the producers of the upcoming movie, while Goro Taniguchi who directed the One Piece OVA episode One Piece: Defeat Him! The Pirate Ganzack!, is also directing the movie. Tsutomu Kuroiwa is writing the screenplay. Kuroiwa worked on the previous One Piece movie, titled One Piece Film: Gold, also as a screenwriter. Toei Animation is animating it.

One Piece manga has been serialized since July 19, 1997, in Weekly Shonen Jump. It currently has over 1050 chapters, compiled into 102 volumes. The anime adaptation by Toei Animation has been airing since October 1999. The 1020th episode aired on Sunday. The anime was recently on a short hiatus, following the Toei Animation ransomware attack.
